The only essential thing that has changed AFAIK are two major Windows updates, KB4537572 and KB4549951. I checked if the driver for the wireless card was up to date, uninstalled and reinstalled the wireless card and booted windows. To clarify what I did: I accessed Action Center, established that wifi was enabled, clicked on Network and got the message "no wifi networks found".
Because I didn't want to be stubborn I have power my router off and on again, but it didn't make a difference. I live in a block of flats where I can usually pick up dozens of signals.
